The Art of Collecting

Lecture

In the lecture, Love Jönsson independent curator och critic speacialising in modern and contamporary crafts, presents Swedish and international artists that from variuos perspectives use collections and collecting as a theme.

During the last half a century iy has become increasingly popular among artists and makers to use collecting as an artistic method. Sometimes collected ready-mades have been presented as artworks in their own right, and sometimes artists have arranged objects and documents of their own production in ways that are similar to museum displays or archives. There are also many examples of artists that have built up extensive private collections of arts, antiquities and other collector¿s items. The lecture presents Swedish and international artists and makers that from variuos perspectives use collections and collecting as a theme, including Edmund de Waal, Kari Steihaug, Joe Hedlund, Agnieszka Knap, Christian Boltanski and Karin Karinson.

Love Jönsson is an independent curator och critic speacialising in modern and contamporary crafts. He has been a project manager for Iaspis (International artists¿ studio program in Sweden) from 2003 to 2005, a visiting lecturer at HDK from 2005 to 2011, and a curator at the Röhsska museum from 2011 to 2017. His curatorial record includes several exhibitions
focusing on collecting, including ¿The Art of Collecting: 6th Tallinn Applied Arts Triennial¿ (Estonian Museum of Applied Arts and Design 2012) och ¿Joe Hedlund: Art as a Home ¿ the Home as a Work of Art¿ (the Röhsska museum 2016).
