Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation 100 years: Metabolism - The Foundation of Life

Conference

Welcome to the jubilee symposium Metabolism - The Foundation of Life to celebrate Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation's 100 years anniversary.

The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW) was formed in 1917 and today it is one of the largest providers of private research funding in Europe. The 100-year anniversary will be celebrated with jubilee symposia in six different university cites, including Gothenburg. The theme of the jubilee symposium in Gothenburg is "Metabolism - The Foundation of Life".

Metabolism is essential for us as it deals with the uptake and transformation of nutrients to sustain life. There are three important aspects of metabolism - the chemical breakdown of energy-rich molecules to supply energy, the synthesis of building blocks to build cells and organisms, and the elimination of waste products. These processes are essential for life - where there is metabolism there is life and without metabolism there is no life.

The symposium is free of charge but registration is mandatory.
