History

The history of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Sahlgrenska Academy traces back to 2006. The education in innovation and entrepreneurship at Gothenburg University was initiated by Associate Professor Boo Edgar, Lena Nyström and Professor Thomas Hedner. The purpose was to provide the academic and practical education in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship in order to foster the growth and development of life science sector in Sweden. The vision was to contribute to the development of regional cluster system in the life science entrepreneurship, which would further stimulate establishment of new companies and growth within the industry.

Enthusiasm and passion of the founders of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Sahlgrenska Academy was recognized by the Swedish Agency of Higher Education awarding the title of the Best Entrepreneurship School in Sweden in 2009 together with Chalmers School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Currently we became a recognized leader in innovation and entrepreneurship education in biomedicine, offering one masters’ programme with two profiles and a range of courses. Cooperation has always been one of the key success factors for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Sahlgrenska Academy. Throughout its history the department established strong relationships with academia, international organizations and the industry and plays a leading role in several national and international innovation projects.

 

2016

  • The Impact Accelerator was established and more than 20 innovation projects are run on a yearly basis. 

2014

  • The Sahlgrenska School of Innovation and Entreprenurship was established.
  • The second PhD student was registered to perform studies at half speed for the department for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

2011

  • The first PhD student was registered to perform studies at half speed for the department for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

2009

  • The Master's Programme was awarded the title of the Best Entrepreneurship School in Sweden together with Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship by the Swedish Agency of Higher Education.

2008

  • The Department for Innovation and Entrepreneurhip was established within the Institute of Medicine at the Sahlgrenska academy, University of Gothenburg.
  • The degree Master of Medical Science (120 credits) with a major in Business Creation and Entrepreneurship in Biomedicine was established.

2007

  • Professor Thomas Hedner was awarded support from Sparbanken Första for the project Medicinskt Entreprenörskap.
  • Professor Thomas Hedner was acknowledged and supported from Kungliga Vetenskapsakademin for the project Centrum för Medicinskt Entreprenörskap.
